Linda Vista Elementary Fourth Grader Gets Custom Racetrack
Posted on 10/07/2025

At Linda Vista Elementary, recess looks a little different these days—in the best possible way. A new custom-built racetrack on the playground is giving a fourth-grade student who uses a wheelchair the chance to race alongside his classmates, picking up speed, confidence, and plenty of cheers from friends and staff.

The track was designed so students with mobility challenges can fully participate in active play, reinforcing the school’s commitment to inclusion and belonging for every child. During recess, classmates line the sides of the track to cheer, run alongside, and celebrate each lap, turning a simple loop into a powerful symbol of teamwork and community.

The story of Linda Vista’s racetrack and its young racer was recently highlighted on CBS 8’s Zevely Zone, shining a spotlight on how thoughtful design and a caring school community can help all students experience the joy of play.

With every lap around the track, Linda Vista Elementary is showing what inclusion looks like in action—one student, one recess, and one joyful race at a time.
