OVERVIEW

The VAPA Program Governance Team (PGT) is a decision-making group of teachers, classified staff, administrators, families, and community members who work together on important issues involving visual and performing arts programs and services offered by and within the VAPA Department. The PGT is equivalent to a Site Governance Team (SGT) at a school. The VAPA PGT shall provide guidance and decision-making on areas of SDUSD Visual and Performing Arts, including but not limited to: budget, selection of new staff, curriculum and programs, schedule and calendar, department climate, and other topics.

As stated in our bylaws:

The purpose of the governance team is to review policy and make recommendations as related to the needs of TK-Grade 12 students, staff, and VAPA educators; to identify, develop, plan and organize VAPA programs and procedures which will help students reach their maximum potential and become well-rounded and artistically literate individuals; to guide the use of resources to improve student achievement; and to participate in shared responsibility for student progress and staff professional development.

• Observers are welcome at our meetings.
  • Public input is the first agenda item at every meeting.
  • Speakers must be recognized to contribute to discussion.
  • Non-team members may not vote.

MEETING SCHEDULE

• There will be a minimum of four scheduled meetings per year, with additional meetings called by consensus as the need arises.

COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP

Council members serve two-year terms; year listed is when the member's term is up. Educator representatives are elected by their membership. Community representatives are chosen by the PGT from a list of interested volunteers.
