“Dr. Bertha Pendleton broke down barriers and shattered glass ceilings. Her character, courage, and leadership demonstrated to young women that they, too, can ascend to great heights in their chosen profession. Dr. Pendleton’s legacy will continue through the lessons she taught her students, the mentorship she provided to other educators, and the initiatives she advanced during her tenure as Superintendent of San Diego Unified. She will be missed by many, but never forgotten.”
