SAN DIEGO -- On Saturday, January 25, in partnership with the California Student Aid Commission, Cal-SOAP San Diego is hosting 25 free Cash for College workshops as part of a Countywide Financial Aid Blitz throughout the San Diego and Imperial Counties. The Cal-SOAP regional events will provide individual help to 12th grade students and families completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). The workshops will begin at 9AM and conclude at 12PM. Event workshops will have trained staff who will provide one-on-one help to complete financial aid applications. “The California Student Aid Commission serves more than 400,000 students annually to ensure equitable access to an affordable education in California. These workshops are crucial to ensure students can access the financial aid for which they are eligible,” said Daisy Gonzales, Executive Director of the California Student Aid Commission. “We know San Diego and Imperial counties have diverse students and families with questions as they seek to apply for financial aid. Now more than ever, we need to reassure students, especially from our immigrant communities, that their dreams of an affordable education are possible in California.”
“We want students across San Diego and Imperial to know that financial aid is open, and Cal-SOAP and our partners are here to help them apply,” said Linda Doughty, Director of San Diego and Imperial Counties Cal-SOAP. “Our Cal-SOAP project is working hard to make this assistance available to students and families across both San Diego and Imperial Counties so we can provide free, hands-on assistance in completing financial aid applications. Financial aid and our workshops are also available to immigrant families, and we welcome them to join us for these events.”
"This Hispanic-Serving Institution College Fair is a vital step in empowering first-generation families by demystifying the college and university application process. By providing accessible information and resources, we aim to help families and students realize their goals, unlock future potential, and confidently navigate the path to higher education. This event reflects our commitment to equity, opportunity, and the success of every student in our district." said Fabi Bagula, PhD, San Diego Unified School District Superintendent (Interim). “I want to thank the Cosulado General de México en San Diego for inviting our school district to partner and host the fair at Logan Memorial Educational Campus, and the California Student Aid Commission for joining us as well.”
As a part of the Countywide Financial Aid Blitz, there will be college access fairs happening in San Diego as well. The San Deigo Unified School District, in partnership with the Mexican Consulate, is hosting a Bilingual College fair at Logan Memorial Educational Campus (2875 Ocean View Blvd, San Diego, CA 92113) from 9-3PM.
