San Diego Unified School District’s (SDUSD) Extended Learning Opportunities Department (ELO) administers the PrimeTime Extended Day Program (PrimeTime) to elementary and middle school students.  PrimeTime is free to all participating families and operates before and/or after school programs every regular school day. Students are expected to attend the program every day for the full range of hours offered.  Parents/guardians can feel comfortable knowing their child(ren) is not only receiving academic support, but also interacting with peers in a physically and emotionally safe environment.  The PrimeTime team is a collaboration among ELO staff, PrimeTime Partner organizations, and other SDUSD departments, programs and individuals. PrimeTime maintains a student to staff ratio of 20:1 at all programs.


Your child(ren) must be enrolled during the regular school day at the school to which you are applying for PrimeTime. All families with children in elementary, middle, or K-8 schools (including transitional kindergarten) interested in participating in PrimeTime during the 2017-2018 school year are required to submit an online application. This includes:

  • Children currently participating in PrimeTime.
  • Children on the wait list.

Application Process

An application must be submitted for each child applying for PrimeTime. This year's application will be available online beginning Monday, March 6, 2017 at 6:00 AM. An email address and internet access will be required to create an account to complete an application. The application must be completed and submitted online; you will receive an immediate submission confirmation notice to retain for your records.

To prepare in advance, you will need your child's legal first name, legal last name and date of birth (available on your child's progress report and report card). You may also view a sample copy of the PrimeTime Application and registration process.

Each school will also be holding an approximately one hour long Parent Orientation to review the new online application process and answer any questions you may have.

You may access the application through any computer or mobile device, such as a cell phone or tablet, with internet connection. If you need internet access, you may visit a public library, SDUSD's Extended Learning Opportunities located at 2441 Cardinal Lane, Bldg A (92123) or SDUSD's Education Center main lobby at 4100 Normal Street (92103).

Submitting an application does not guarantee participation in PrimeTime. It is anticipated that the demand for PrimeTime services will exceed the program capacity at most schools; therefore, it is extremely important that the application be completed and submitted during the initial application timeline.

Initial Application Timeline: March 6, 2017 - May 5, 2017

Applications will be available online beginning Monday, March 6, 2017 at 6:00 AM and must be completed and submitted online by Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:59 PM to be included in the initial review and enrollment process. Applications faxed, e-mailed, mailed, or hand delivered will not be accepted. Parents/guardians who complete and submit the application within the initial application timeline will be notified via email of the status of their application no later than June 30, 2017. The email will notify families of whether their child(ren) has been accepted to participate, placed on a wait list, or is not eligible for the before and/or after school PrimeTime Program. Acceptance into the before school program does not ensure acceptance into the after school program and acceptance into the after school program does not ensure acceptance into the before school program.

Applications submitted after May 5, 2017, will be considered in priority order, as space is available, according to the rating system below.

Application Rating System

Completed applications that are submitted by the deadline during the initial application timeline will be reviewed for the initial enrollment period. Children will be accepted for participation based on the application rating system detailed below, up to the capacity for each school's program. Once PrimeTime has reached its capacity, children not accepted for participation will be placed on a wait list, in the same order of priority, and will be accepted as space becomes available.

Parents/guardians may choose to have their child attend either the before and/or after school programs, if applicable. Choosing only the before school or after school program will not affect the rating of the application.

Each application will be prioritized using the following rating system:

Per Education Code 8483, homeless and foster children shall receive priority enrollment into PrimeTime. This priority will be determined automatically based on information already collected by the District. For more information, please contact Extended Learning Opportunities at (858) 503-1870.

Priority List

First priority for participation will be given to applications with 4 points and last priority will be given to applications rated with 0 points. In cases where a determination must be made between two or more applications with the same points, selection for acceptance will be based on date and time of online submission of the completed applications. For priority enrollment, attendance policy below will be strictly enforced.

Accepted Students

Once notified of acceptance, the 2017-18 PrimeTime Student Participation Forms are required to be completed before your child can begin participating in the program. 2017-18 Student Participation Forms will be available online or through the organization providing services at your child's school. Student with incomplete 2017-18 Student Participation Forms may be disenrolled from PrimeTime.

Attendance Policy

In accordance with the California Education Code, students are expected to attend the program every day for the full range of hours offered. Students who do not attend daily for a minimum of 50% of the daily program hours offered may be subject to disenrollment; priority is given to students who attend the program daily.
